Contemporary home in a conservation area
The fact that this was in a conservation area meant that this had to be a stunning piece of high-quality architecture. Using layers of screening, we were able to provide privacy they didn’t have previously. Opening to the rear, the property embraces the qualities of the site.
Location: Newbury, West Berkshire
Materials: The house uses a sandstone effect render, contrasted with linear bricks and sharply detailed glazing.
Clever aspects: We modelled light paths throughout the day by strategically placing roof lights and courtyards to bring in light from above, without compromising privacy.
Friends on the project: We worked closely with planning and heritage consultants to put together a comprehensive planning strategy.
We love: The way that this building is completely born of its context and the way the light will animate the interiors with a play of light throughout the day.
