A clever renovation and extension gave this home with a view a makeover to match

It’s still surprising to think how underwhelming this 1970s home was when we first set our sights on it. But with a lovely rural West Berkshire location, it had views to die for and the potential to become a perfect home. Collaborating with Blue Tongue Construction, Absolute Architecture was able to transform the property beyond all recognition. We’ve added charm and authentic detail to the exterior and opened up the interior to create three floors of fabulous living space.

Location: Inkpen, West Berkshire

Materials: The house has received a completely new external skin with maintenance free render and clay tile roofs. The new brickwork really adds warmth and the green oak detailing is contrasted with contemporary glass and slimline glazing to make the best of the views.

Clever aspects: We were able to add a new loft floor whilst preserving ceilings below thanks to being strategic with the structure. Galleried landings add a sense of space and drama.

Friends on the project: Our client and main contractor here was Blue Tongue Construction. We collaborated on this project to test out ideas that we are now using in other project collaborations.

We love: The views over rolling hills from the family seating area and the master bedroom balcony.
