Complete restoration of a beautiful country downland home

his beautiful house in a country downland location needed some loving care and attention.

We reconfigured a disfunctional floor plan to make the spaces connect and flow, moved the front door and rebuilt a crumbling coach house. The original building fabric was completely removed before being lovingly restored.

The works included replacement of the heating system and all associated pipework, a complete rewire, and new ceiling, wall and floor finishes throughout.

External works included a new swimming pool area and driveway. A beautiful climate controlled wine cellar was incorporated into the build.

Location: Longparish, Andover 

Materials: The aim here was to create a seamless and sympathetic design, using timeless vernacular materials and detailing to match the existing property. Bricks have been matched with flintwork detailing and traditional joinery has been carefully designed. The interior of the house has been updated throughout in a timeless classic design. 

Clever aspects: We relocated the kitchen to the link building between the house and the rebuilt coach house. That way it forms the heart of the house and connects the two parts, meaning neither is isolated. As a vaulted space with exposed beams this provides the daily wow factor. We also relocated a front door to the side of the property and formed a new hallway, which works with the modern access and car parking.

Friends on the project: Blue Tongue Construction were appointed by negotiated tender for a phased build, which overcame ecology timing restrictions.

We fast tracked the refurbishment of the house and started work on the coach house as soon as bat surveys could be completed and planning secured. 

We love: The opportunity to transform a whole house and make the sum of the parts work together as a whole. 

Sustainability/Eco elements: We upgraded an inefficient heating system, rebuilt the coach house to enhanced standards and focussed on introducing biodiversity to the garden.
