Restoration and extension of Georgian property which works for a modern family

This Georgian property was beautifully proportioned but tired and simply didn’t work for a modern family, with a tiny kitchen located at the back of the property. The homeowners needed to add accommodation and wished to restore the property to bring back the Georgian elegance and style.

Absolute Architecture added a two storey, seamless extension, providing a new large family kitchen and master bedroom suite. The hallway was opened up with a beautiful double height space and the staircase was restored. Elsewhere rooms have been reconfigured and the entire property has been renovated internally, including new kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces and joinery.

The clever aspects: The principle of ‘less is more’ defined this project. We stripped back recent changes to restore the handsome character of this Georgian property. Attention to detail is key to the authenticity of the renovations. It’s the little things that count, traditional joinery details, shuttered window linings, traditional hand-made glazing, beautiful interior fittings.
