We’d had some plans that drawn up by someone else and we knew they weren’t really right for us. We wanted to find somebody who could really deliver our vision.

Kate listened to what we wanted, really understood our brief and took the time to understand how we’d live our lives and how our family would live our lives. She really took that on board and now every single room has got a wonderful feeling of space and light.

For me, there are architects who kind of just do what needs to be done on paper. And then there’s architects that really get under the skin of how you live and breathe and how you are going to live your life.

I had very set ideas on what I wanted, so needed someone who wouldn’t try and impose their ideas onto me but would offer guidance and support.

Having met with several other architects, we decided to engage with Kate at Absolute Architecture because we instantly felt at ease with her.

We were impressed with the design options she offered up at the initial consultation, as well as her evident detailed knowledge of the local building trade.

As part of the Design Phase, Kate produced numerous design options, allowing us to fully explore many different ideas within our brief. She teamed this with high level costs, enabling us at the very early stage to rule out certain design options.

We both were delighted with the plans that Kate Cooper drew up for our new extension. We live in a converted chapel and wanted to be sure that any extension to our living space would not look out of keeping with the original, simple design. Absolute Architecture was a joy to work with. Kate Cooper and her team worked with a tiny, decrepit home, large garden and stables from 1908 and turned the property into a show piece. They were sympathetic to the original design and area while making the home user friendly and comfortable for contemporary residents. They were knowledgeable about the many local laws and guidelines and used the best local craftsmen for the renovation and addition, all in a timely, warm manner. We interviewed four RIBA architects. Kate was the only one who brought along a builder that she works with regularly and … it meant we had another professional to question about costs and time scale etc. Kate also arranged for us to see some of her other work in progress so we could see how the process would unfold – viewing the dust and mess prepared us for what would become our everyday life for several months. Kate’s ideas matched our ideas of what we wanted our home to become and she allowed for several changes along the way – and seemed pretty unflappable at our requests – and there were quite a few!
